What is the C.A.M.P. Scholarship Program?
C.A.M.P. stands for Committed Adult Ministry Partners. This program allows you to build a team of financial and prayer supporters during your time at Camp Sonshine.
Do I have to participate in the C.A.M.P. Scholarship Program?
No, the C.A.M.P. Program is a completely optional program. It is designed to help you take care of your financial responsibilities, and develop a prayer support while you minister at Camp Sonshine. C.A.M.P. Program participants can receive up to $300 more each week during the summer than non-participants.
What are the benefits of the C.A.M.P. Program?
You will receive more money in your paycheck to cover personal expenses that you may have this summer and after. This financial support will enable you to experience camp ministry, and still cover those expenses.
Also, you will have a team of supporters praying for you and the effectiveness of your ministry in the lives of the kids. It also provides your supporters the information they need to understand your ministry at camp, and the opportunity to serve through prayer and financial support.
How does the C.A.M.P. Program work?
Identify a maximum of 50 people or couples who you think would like to share in your ministry this summer. Supply Camp Sonshine with their names, current addresses and phone numbers on the address forms enclosed. We do ask that you refrain from listing any parents of campers from Camp Sonshine,
and your list has 20-50 entries. You can email your list to the recruiting department at staff@campsonshine.org
or mail it straight to camp along with your signed contract.
These things should be turned in no later than May 1st in order for the support to come in before the summer ends.
We will then send you the support packet including a “How To” List explaining how to send your support letters, written support letters explaining your mission at camp, envelopes, and Camp Sonshine material to share with your supporters. When a gift is received from one of your supporters, we will provide you with a blank thank you card. We ask that you write a short note of thanks, sign it, and then send it.
How do I come up with a list of names?
The easiest way to form a list is to think of as many people as possible that have positively affected your life over the years. Anyone who knows you and is interested in the work God is doing in and through your life will be a perfect candidate for your C.A.M.P. Program team. Again, we ask that you not include the parents of campers that attend or have attended Camp Sonshine.
What if I can’t come up with 50 names?
We do ask is that you make a genuine effort to identify 50 partners. If you come up with fewer we will process what you have. Your goal is to develop the most extensive list that you can, in order to involve as many financial and prayer supporters as possible.
Why do we want their phone numbers?
If a donor gives a significant contribution, a camp representative may call to thank them personally. There is also the occasional need to question the donor in regards to a check or tax information.
Who writes the support letter? Are they form letters?
The C.A.M.P. Coordinator will be responsible for writing the support letters. The letters will be personalized by having the supporter’s name written in the greeting, and you will sign each letter. As the letters carry the name and reputation of Camp Sonshine, we ask that they not be changed. It is highly encouraged that you add a personal note to the bottom of your letter. Please be aware that you will be responsible for the postage of these letters.
Where does the money sent by my supporters go? How do I get the money?
It goes into an account where it will be recorded under your name. As support becomes available, we will add it into your paycheck which you will receive every two weeks during the summer. Your supporters will have the option of having their financial support tax-deductible or not. This means, that if supporters choose the tax-deductible option, taxes will be taken out of the money they donate to you. If they don’t choose this option, the full financial donation will be placed into your paycheck.
How much can I raise?
You can earn up to $2400 ($300/week) for the eight weeks of camp. If your financial support exceeds $2400, the additional amount will be put into Camp Sonshine’s general fund to cover overhead costs.
For Internationals only: Your total income for the entire summer, including pocket money, cannot exceed $2400. So if you decide to participate in the C.A.M.P program, be aware that your salary combined with your C.A.M.P. support cannot exceed $2400. If any additional money does come in for you, it will be deposited into Camp Sonshine’s general fund to cover overhead costs.
To Whom Should Checks Be Written?
Checks should be made out to Camp Sonshine. Your name should NOT appear anywhere on the check including the memo area.
What happens to my address list at the end of the summer?
We will keep the lists for tax purposes and for next year if you decide to do the program again. However, your list will remain confidential and information will not be disclosed to any other organizations.
